    MOUNT WILHELM to MADANG

    OUR SUMMIT TO SEA TREK

Elevation: 3000 metres (9000 ft), down to sea level.
    Location: Chimbu and Madang Provinces

    Day 1 Kegsegal – Village - 8 - 9hr hike depending on conditions
Up again early and on the track by 7am. This is the most beautiful time of the day to trek as we meander up along the track/road. Once again taking in the fabulous scenery, stopping and talking to the very friendly villagers hopefully sampling their produce, and meeting their all important pigs. We should arrive in the village mid afternoon. We relax and integrate with the village people. That evening the village will more than likely put on a small “sing sing” (cultural show).

We all stay in a village hut which is vacated by the men fold, they will cook our meal over the fires in the hut. This is truly experiencing the Highland way of life. It doesn’t get any better than this.

    Day 2 Village – Bundi - 7 - 8 hr hike depending on conditions
We can see Bundi but it seems to take forever to get there as we wind our way around the mountains. Don’t forget to stop and take photos and look back to where we have come from and hopefully view Mt Wilhelm. There will also be the odd river crossing. If we stay at the mission we will be able to have a hot shower and a soft bed. The nuns are lovely people and do their best to make us welcome with the limited resources that they have. We can go for a walk around the mission and meet and view village people going about their daily lives. Otherwise we keep trekking to the next village.

Day 3 Bundi – Brehman - 10 hr hike (long day)
Like to start walking today by 6am. Today is one of the most beautiful walks that we do here in Papua New Guinea. The bird life, pristine rivers and waterfalls, butterflies are just breathtaking. We walk down into the Ramu Valley with the road improving all the time. It is then a long flat trek to Brehman Mission. At Brehman we have the luxury of a hot shower and soft bed. It is also extremely hot and humid.

Day 4 Brehman – Madang - Ground transport from Brehman to Madant approx 4 – 5 hrs
Today we relax in beautiful Madang. Maybe go for a walk around the town. Or just lie around the pool.

Day 5 You can either stay on in Madang and enjoy this beautiful resort town or fly back to Port Moresby.
